Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 1, 1982

I got up early. Mohsen, accompanied by Mohsen Vafadar, was setting off for the front. Aftab saw him off and he passed under the Quran. May God protect the Islamic fighters.

The children are in good spirits. As I was on my way to the assembly, I saw Mohsen wearing his Basij uniform, ready to set off, and it gave me great pleasure. It's interesting that Aftab also responds with patience and reason, and although she normally can't bear her children being away for even a short time, on this occasion she says nothing. This spirit is present in many Muslim mothers whose children volunteer for the front.

We had a public session. The council plan was on the agenda, along with two questions. In the afternoon, I had several meetings. During the break, I also spoke to eight hundred male and female teachers from Qarveh, Kurdistan, who had come to Parliament, and to the Iranian wrestling champions, and they took photographs. In the afternoon, the ambassadors to Bangladesh, Nigeria, Cuba, Venezuela and Hungary arrived, and I spoke to them about their responsibilities.

I saw an ophthalmologist who had come to the President's office for a consultation. We had a meeting of the party's central council. The main discussion was about the failure of some of the party's candidates to be elected to the Parliament's presiding board.

Then there was a consultative meeting of the leaders. We discussed the conditions for ending the war, the situation in Lebanon, the divisions within the Amal Movement, and the visit of the Turkish Prime Minister and his cabinet.

I came home late at night. I spoke on the telephone with Mr [Mohammad] Imami Kashani about the location of the Administrative Court of Justice.
