We held a public session. The Councils Bill and two questions were on the agenda, with representatives speaking before business. In the afternoon, Mr [Muhyiddin] Fazl Herandi arrived and gave his report on his trip to Europe to guide the Islamic student associations, and he complained about our ambassador in Bonn, saying that Mr Moghaddam, the cleric of the Hamburg mosque, had forged a union with the students.

In the afternoon the parliamentary assistants of the ministries came; I spoke to them and asked them to be active and to act as a liaison between Parliament and the government. The deputies from the Ministry of Guidance also came and criticised the state of the ministry. Mr Golsarkhi came and said something about the situation in India; India had not been willing to grant him a visa, but has recently agreed to do so; it was arranged that he would accompany me to India.
A group from the Ministry of Commerce came and wanted an explanation for the delay in the bill to nationalise foreign trade. In the evening we had a Supreme Defence Council meeting. In the Majlis, Mr [Ali] Sayyad Shirazi and Mr Mohsen Rezaei gave a report on the situation on the front and the Ramadan operations. They were not successful and the Iraqis are defending themselves tenaciously, having built massive fortifications. In the evening, we were supposed to have dinner with Mr Montazeri at Mr [Murtaza] Moqtadai's house. I did not go because I was tired. Mr Khamenei went, and I slept at the Majlis. Late at night, Mohsen phoned from Ahvaz.
