The elections of the House of Representatives and half of the members of the Senate and 34 governors of the American states were held today.  The Republican Party won the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives;  Previously, the Democrats had a one-vote majority in the Senate.  In Afghanistan, the headquarters of American forces was attacked and casualties were caused.  

In Yemen, the CIA managed to blow up a car carrying al-Qaeda members [in Marib province] south of Sana'a with a missile, killing six people.  Some sources say that the missile was dropped by an American unmanned aircraft [Predator] and the Americans called it important.  It has been said that [Abu Ali al-Harthi], the suspect in the explosion of the USS Cole, was in the car and was killed.  Resorting to its assassination in another country can condemn America and be a precedent for others to repeat.  The government of Yemen is ashamed and humiliated and has not protested yet, and America has thanked it for its cooperation.

In Israel, with the resignation of the Labor party, [Ariel] Sharon's government has suffered a crisis and has dissolved the parliament to accept [Benjamin] Netanyahu's position as the Minister of Defense.  Today, in an act of martyrdom, two Israelis were killed and many were injured.  Sharon explicitly said that America should attack Iran after occupying Iraq, and [Jack Straw], the British Foreign Minister, immediately said that this proposal was dangerous, and France and Germany rejected it.  

In France, the Paris-Bonn train caught fire and killed 12 people and injured many others.  In Luxembourg, the plane crash left 16 dead.  In the European Union, the atmosphere of the budget deficit in France and Germany has become controversial and in this sense, those two countries have been called the two weak primary school children.

Internally, the dispute over the Afkarsanji case has intensified, and the arrests are being protested in the parliament and other circles.  The General Assembly approved the election law amendment bill.

Mr. [Ali] Falahian, [former Minister of Information] came and criticized the behavior of the military court and Mr. [Mohammed] Niazi personally, [Head of the Judiciary Organization of the Armed Forces], for creating a case for the agents of the Ministry of Information, and discussed the possibility of American military actions in Iraq and its effects on Iran. 

Mr.  [Javad] Maghsoodi, the person in charge of the Friday prayer [organization] headquarters, came [Tehran].   He had suggestions for reforming the staff council and programs for the administration of Friday prayers and moving to the [Imam Khomeini] mosque in Tehran.

We have fasted today as Yom al-Shak and considering that in most of the Islamic countries, the month of Ramadan has started today, the people of Iran have actually started the month, and in the offices and on the streets, the mood of the month of Ramadan prevails.  The veiled lady, who was seen a lot in the streets in recent months, was much less today.
