Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 21, 1982

Until near noon, I took care of pending work in my office. I contacted the front. They are preparing for a new attack. The Air Force has bombed a refinery in Baghdad. Initial reports say that one of our planes has also been shot down. Iraq, in retaliation, has bombed residential areas in the city of Ahvaz. We do not bomb residential areas of Iraq, but they do not refrain from any crime.

At noon, on my way home, I went to Dr. Fazel's dental clinic. With great discomfort, he cleaned the root of the tooth, but it may be ineffective, and it will probably need to be extracted. His wife, who was among the MKO members, was arrested a few days ago, and he said she has been sentenced to death. I came home in pain, rested a little, then took a shower and prayed, but my tooth still hurts, though it has eased a bit. At night, the toothache intensified, and I took a lot of painkillers. The doctor was supposed to come to the house if the pain became severe and extract the tooth. We spoke on the phone, and it was postponed until the morning.
