The end of the vote to restore the trigger mechanism in the Security Council is interpreted as a final legal step.

Rahman Ghahramanpour

The end of the vote to restore the trigger mechanism in the Security Council will, in a sense, be the final legal step to restore the sanctions suspended by the JCPOA.

Although on paper there is still a possibility that Iran and Europe will reach an agreement, the tough positions of Europe and the United States indicate that they are currently seeking to activate the trigger mechanism.

The Americans believe that if sanctions are reimposed, diplomatic pressure on Iran will increase within the framework of coercive diplomacy, and in that case, Iran will be more willing to negotiate than before.

But at least in the short term, it is unlikely that Iran, under pressure from the return of sanctions, will agree to an agreement that is favorable to the United States and Europe.

What makes the trigger mechanism even more complicated is that Iran must negotiate with the United States at the same time as Europe and reach a specific result.

Meanwhile, the US and Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities has added a third side to this agreement, namely the IAEA.

Inside Iran, the task will become much more difficult. The half-hearted and minimal consensus that existed regarding the agreement with the US and Europe will be weakened even further with the return of the trigger mechanism./World Economy
