Women: from humiliation to liberation

Women are the biggest paradoxical problem of the Islamic Republic, and in my opinion, women will be the mainstream of liberation in this system in the final analysis.

The Islamic revolution opened the way for the social presence of women and the flourishing of their talents. For example, the large and effective presence of women in universities is such that in open competition, girls will form the overwhelming majority of the country's students.

Now, a significant percentage of Iranian women have higher education, and, like any strata with such education, they have gained economic independence as a result, they have become independent and voting citizens with social and political demands and have demanded equal rights and status with men. For this reason, the service of the Islamic Republic to women is considered unique in the history of Iran and has even gone ahead of the constitutional period, which changed many of the foundations of the country.

On the other hand, no stratum or class in the Islamic Republic is humiliated as much as women. In my opinion, even though the working class is under a lot of pressure in the current situation and sanctions, it is hoped that sooner or later, with the change of the government and parliament or the cancellation of the sanctions and the change of conditions, their situation will improve. But this rule is not true for women unless the dominant view of women in the system changes.

In the current situation, women are being humiliated 24 hours a day, just because they are women. A clear example is the compulsory hijab, which has created unfortunate conditions in society and a dangerous complex in the minds and consciences of many women, and it may explode at any moment and have a million effects. The signs of this wrong trend are visible every day.

On the one hand, the emancipation and widespread presence and growing social and even political presence of women and their independent personality, on the one hand, and the constant humiliation that they are deprived of many civil rights due to being women (from the simplest things such as riding a bicycle and watching a match in a sports stadium to not having the right and freedom in choosing a lifestyle) on the other hand. This has created a paradoxical situation.

The continuation of this practice mobilizes women against the political system. Objection to these restrictions does not recognize hijab or non-hijab, and ironically, an important part of women suffer more with hijab, because hijab is their own choice, but because it is accompanied by government coercion, it has created a bad feeling for them, and in any case, they are against the imposition of hijab.

In other countries, for example, Lebanon, women are seen from the most covered to the most free coverings, and they are satisfied with their choice, such as in Iran before the revolution, when women chose hijab or no hijab based on their choice.

Why does a group insist on this big explosion? Why should there be a situation where the citizens, knowingly or unknowingly, oppose the rulings of jurisprudence and finally the religion itself to negate obstruction and imposition? All this is due to the imposition of hijab and other restrictive practices that are neither from the principles of religion nor even from its branches.

What is really the insistence on compulsory hijab when they have seen its negative results for 40 years? Interestingly, in other countries, the number of women wearing hijab is increasing, and in Iran, the number of women wearing hijab is increasing.
