Early in the morning, I made up for the two days of writing my memoirs that I had fallen behind on. Then I went to the airport and, accompanied by the Guards, Fati, Mehdi, and Yaser, set off for Kerman in a small Falcon aircraft to assess the situation of the earthquake victims in Golbaf, Kerman.

We were at Kerman Airport by ten o’clock. A large group of revolutionary elements from the city had come to welcome us. After they welcomed me, I gave a short speech.

We went to Golbaf by two helicopters with our companions. It is a small town with a population of about fifteen thousand, where almost all the buildings had either been completely destroyed or were uninhabitable. Fortunately, most of the houses have trees in their yards, so tents had been set up in the same areas and the people had been accommodated easily.

Many people gathered around me and chanted political slogans, including slogans against Bani-Sadr. The aid provided by the people is very substantial. They have announced that people should no longer send aid, except money for rebuilding the houses. At the relief headquarters, I spoke to the people. A few had minor complaints, most of which were unrealistic.

We had lunch at the home of Mr. Morteza Fahim, the Sharia judge and candidate for Parliament whose election was to be held the following day. They had deliberately arranged such a program to promote him!

In the afternoon, we held a meeting with officials at the governor’s office and had useful discussions about the situation of the province, its needs, and the reconstruction plans for Golbaf. I also spoke generally about the issues raised. Then I visited the relief headquarters’ warehouse. A large quantity of goods had been collected and the warehouses were full. The people are doing very well. I gave an interview to Kerman Television.

Then I attended a gathering of members of the Islamic Republican Party at the party office. I listened to their requests and gave a short speech about the benefits of political parties and organization, as well as the conditions and duties of an Islamic party. I prayed in congregation with them and held a private meeting with the leaders of the party in Kerman.

They insisted that a cleric who followed Imam’s line be sent to Kerman. They complained about the Friday Prayer Imam.

At night, we came to Rafsanjan and were guests at the home of Sheikh Mohammad Hashemian. My mother and a number of relatives also came from Nowq.
