Mr. [Mohammad Reza] Rahimi, the former governor of Kurdistan, came. Mr. [Mohammad Reza] Rahimi, the former governor of Kurdistan, came. He reported that the High Supervisory Board had filed a complaint against the Ministry of Interior because the Ministry had not accepted its position regarding the Tehran City Council. He also spoke about the situation of a large number of former managers who were wandering without positions and were left in a state of uncertainty. He proposed the establishment of an independent and moderate political force.

Mr. [Ghorbanali] Salehabadi, Deputy Minister of Housing, came and gave a report on the working group examining the acquisition of advanced technology for housing production. They had approved an industrial system from Italy called Monolit, which produces housing more quickly and at a lower cost. I said that it was good, but that before making a final decision, they should also examine other technologies. He asked me to support the project and also to assist [Mr. Ali Abdolalizadeh], the Minister of Housing, who had recently been treated unfavorably by Mr. Khatami, [the President]. Mr. [Reza] Amrollahi, [president of Khajeh Nasir Toosi University], came and brought a letter signed by several ministers and deputies in support of Mr. [Gholamhossein] Karbaschi, asking me to follow up on the matter in order to prevent his imprisonment.

In the afternoon, we went to the University of Tehran for the opening of a large seminar commemorating Martyr Morteza Motahhari. Mr. [Ali] Moallem, [Deputy for Cultural Affairs of the Art Center], recited a poem, and Mr. [Mahmoud] Mohammadi Araqi, [head of the Islamic Propagation Organization], delivered a report and welcomed the attendees. He asked me to visit the universities more often and devote time to answering students’ questions and doubts. I gave a lengthy speech about the various services rendered by Martyr Motahhari throughout history, corresponding to the needs of each period.

At night, I was a guest of the Leader. Regarding Mr. Karbaschi, he said that they would formally ask the court to postpone enforcement of the sentence for a period of time, so that the procedure would remain within the law and would not weaken the court. I said that it was unlikely that Mr. Karbaschi would accept this.

We discussed the general situation of the country and the strong possibility that the right-wing faction would not succeed in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as the concerns of the leaders of this faction and their visits to me seeking a remedy, including the proposal to establish an independent and moderate political party. He acknowledged the weakness of this faction, but did not think that this would resolve any major problem and did not consider the establishment of a party to be the solution. He believed that bringing reputable and respected individuals into the political arena would be more useful.

We also discussed the management of the Mostazafin Foundation, the Judiciary, and the Martyr Foundation.
