I woke up late. After eating sahari, I had gone to sleep at three-thirty in the morning and woke with a start close to eight. The public session was supposed to begin at eight.
I woke up late. After eating sahari, I had gone to sleep at three-thirty in the morning and woke with a start close to eight. The public session was supposed to begin at eight. I arrived at the Majlis half an hour late. The political parties bill was on the agenda, but it was not completed. I gave a brief speech about the martyrdom of Mr. Ansari and his deputy.
At noon, Mrs. Cheraghzadeh Dezfuli, the wife of one of the martyred representatives [the representative from Ramhormoz], came and we discussed the security of the representatives and the situation of the martyrs’ families. She seemed to be a devout and intelligent woman, resilient and patient. She has two young children. We have a strong nation. With such forces, this Revolution can achieve something.
Mr. Mohammadi Gorgani, the representative from Gorgan, came. He was upset about the insults directed at him by the supporters of the Imam’s line in Gorgan and was seeking a solution. He was concerned about the pressure being placed on the Mojahedin-e Khalq and said that it would expand terrorism rather than eliminate them, but he offered no solution or remedy. It was decided that we would talk later. He had been one of the senior members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq; we had been in prison together, but recently he says that he is no longer a member.
In the afternoon, Sheikh Hassan Saffar came and spoke about the support of revolutionary forces in the Arabian Peninsula for the Iranian Revolution. He complained about the difficulties being created by some Iranian administrative officials for Arab revolutionaries living in Iran and was seeking a solution.
Mr. Mostafa Mirkhani came and arranged an appointment with Dr. [Habibollah] Peyman. He also asked for help in securing the release of Ezzatollah Khalili, who had been arrested because of his children’s association with the Mojahedin.
Several representatives came to ask about security arrangements. It is an important issue of the day, and they have every right to be concerned. I read the condolence telegrams from domestic and international figures, as well as the reports.
In the afternoon, I went to see Mr. Khamenei. We spoke for a while about the current situation and foreign affairs. He was doing better. His right hand had been put in a cast. It would have to remain in the cast for two months.
Iftar was hosted by Mr. Nateq Nouri, together with the Prime Minister and the Combatant Clergy. We discussed the presidency and the next Cabinet. I came home late at night. Relatives of Effat and my own relatives were there. We talked for a while and went to sleep.
Mr. Aminian and Mrs. Qodsi, who had come from Belgium, spoke about the hostile activities of Iranian counter-revolutionaries and the assistance being provided by revolutionaries abroad.
