Mohsen went out to obtain a travel ticket, and Mehdi, Yaser, and Faizeh were in Kerman, waiting to get tickets to Tehran. They spoke by telephone. Saeed [Lahouti] also took steps to make arrangements to go to Ahvaz to perform his military service. The ground forces support officer had said that he should stay in Tehran for five more days to work. Apparently, there is a shortage of doctors here, and the equipment for a dentist to work there is not ready.
At four o'clock I went to the Majlis. I read the reports and signed the administrative letters. Mr. Sabah Zangeneh [representative from Shiraz], who had returned from Sierra Leone, came and gave a report on two conferences in Sierra Leone and Bangladesh—which had been held at our expense and under their own management for propaganda related to the Hajj—and was satisfied. Some also consider these conferences fruitless and say that serious people do not participate. He also spoke about the weakness of our embassy in Paris and some other places, the need of Muslim Turks living in Germany for our assistance, the split among them and the majority's inclination toward our Revolution, their proposal regarding purchases from Turkish Muslim companies, and the dispute between supporters of the Party and the association in Paris.
I attended the meeting of the Supreme Economic Council; we discussed the price of rice, the situation of tea, and the establishment of a free port on Kish Island. We did not reach a definite conclusion. They reported from the front that today, on the Mehran front, the Iraqis had launched a heavy counterattack; but it had been unsuccessful and they had retreated with casualties. On the northern front as well, our situation is good. At night, I discussed the new ministers, the [Islamic Republic] Party, and other matters with [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei.
