This is the first time Australia has been firing the ambassador of a foreign country since World War II.

The Australian government declared Ahmad Sadeghi, the Iranian ambassador, a "undesirable element" and gave him and the three other officials of the Islamic Republic to leave the country seven days to leave.

The Australian Prime Minister has also suspended his embassy activities in Tehran and transferred his diplomats to a third country.
