Some said that the sharp rise in costs and its impact on other goods had caused dissatisfaction among the people. I spoke with Mr. [Seyyed Mohsen] Yahyavi, [member of the Supreme Council for Oversight of Council Elections], about problems with the method of supervising the elections. Dr. [Abbas] Sheibani, [representative for Tehran], requested that I ask Fati to deliver several kidney dialysis machines to medical centers. In the afternoon, I stopped by the offices related to the office of the head of the [Expediency Discernment] Council and spoke with them; their rooms are small and their workspace is cramped.
The fighting in Serbia and Kosovo continues and is intensifying. A phase has begun today in which the Yugoslav government will not surrender without the intervention of ground forces, and [Slobodan] Milošević, [President of Yugoslavia], will stand by his position. Although most governments continue to announce that they will limit themselves to aerial and missile bombardment.
In the fire in the fifteen-kilometer-long Mont Blanc Tunnel connecting France and Italy, forty people have been killed, and it has become major news. Apparently, a truck caught fire first, and the smoke and flames affected the other vehicles, which had no way to turn back.
