This action was explicitly contrary to some principles of the Constitution and a restriction on the freedom to choose one's profession.Although the conditions for qualification as mayor are stipulated in the amended law on the formation, duties, and elections of Islamic councils and the election of mayors and village heads, enacted in Esfand 1403 (2024), with no mention of marital status, nonetheless, the General Assembly of the Administrative Justice Court annulled the aforementioned requirement included in the cabinet's resolution.
