Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 17, 1985

I reached the parliament at seven in the morning. We did not have any important news in the reports. Before the order, I spoke about the imam's speech yesterday, and in the speeches before the order Mr. [Mortaza] Razavi, the representative of Tabriz, attacked the conservative movement and their jurisprudence opinions. The meeting was a little tense, but it went well. His interpretation was harsh.

I came to my office at half past nine. Mr. [Mohsen] Rahami came. He brought the opinions of the representatives in favor of Mr. Mirhossein Mousavi about the members of the new cabinet. Mr. [Mohsen] Kangarlu came and said that Mr. Shafii, who had cooperated in the prosecution of the bribery gang, was arrested by the Prosecutor's Office of the Union Affairs Committee. Mr. [Mousavi] Ardabili was in Qom. I informed Mr. [Mousavi] Khoiniha [Prosecutor General of the country]. But he could not free her.

In the afternoon, Mr. Seyyed Morteza Burqai Qommi, the famous old preacher of Qom, came. It has become isolated and impoverished. His son has also been downgraded in education. I comforted and helped them and promised to help them to solve the problem.

A group of guards from Zanjan province came and I spoke for them. In the evening, the officials of parents' associations and school teachers came. They gave a report and I spoke to them. A group from the student unit of the [Islamic Republic] party came. They had questions about the party and the current issues of the parliament, the party and the government. They seem more inclined to the conservative side. Mr. Seyyed Mohammad Bagher Hakim came. They complained about the weakness of the Iraq Support Committee and the weakness of the Supreme Assembly and bad preparation and made a proposal for reform and strengthening; I was supposed to follow. I did the work until eight o'clock in the evening and then I came home.
