Early in the morning, I went to the parliament. The reports reported that several Iranian cities were attacked by Iraqi missiles and planes. The representatives of the relevant regions were very upset, but under the influence of the recommendations, they refrained from reacting strongly. It was reported that Iranian planes have bombed several Iraqi cities, including Baghdad. It made the delegates happy and in good spirits.

We also had a meeting in the evening. At night, we had a meeting with a group of representatives. They had questions about the war. I gave explanations that I think were convincing. I said that in order to demonstrate the power of long-range missiles, we will fire a Scud surface-to-surface missile at Kirkuk.

I stayed awake until half past eleven [night]. Dr. [Hasan] Rouhani informed that the attack has started. The name of the operation is "Badr" and its password is "Ya Fatemeh al-Zahra (pbuh)". He said that they have engaged in two axes [operations with Iraqi forces] and have broken the enemy's line. I also informed Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei.

At three in the morning, I woke up to the sound of anti-aircraft fire. It turned out that Iraq attacked Tehran with a plane.
