Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 19, 1985

I worked until six in the morning and then slept until half past seven. Mr. Gharehi [Oil Minister] came and consulted about Iran's position in the OPEC conference. I told him to oppose the cheapening of oil. I prepared a letter in 14 paragraphs about the war and our conditions and the [war crimes] court for the governments of the world to be sent to them through ambassadors.

They came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and made suggestions about the axes of the negotiations in China. The officials of the parliament arrangements came and told the problems of their work. Mr. Aghazadeh, the Deputy Prime Minister, came and told about the progress of the purchase of weapons. The representatives of Zabul came and talked about the lack of water in Hirmand, the drying up of Hamon and the dismissal of the governor. The representatives of Bakhtran, Ilam and Kurdistan came and told about the people's problems related to Saddam's attack on the cities and asked for help. I gave one million tomans from the people's aid to the fronts and explained about the defense plan of the cities and the war.

[Officials] of public relations of the parliament came and talked about their trip to China and Japan and their problems with employers. Dr. Velayati came in the evening and we negotiated before the ambassadors' meeting. We had invited all the foreign ambassadors living in Iran to come to the parliament. I spoke to them in detail and a written message was given to them.

The first meeting of the new chairman of the parliament was held. The tasks were divided and we took a souvenir photo. I came home to break the fast. I am going to travel to Libya tomorrow. There are ambiguities that were discussed today. Today I had an interview with French TV in which various issues were raised.
