Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 18, 1984

The council of experts had a meeting until noon. We finished the meeting and took a group photo in the courtyard of the parliament. In the afternoon, Mr. Yathrabi Imam Juma of Kashan came to my office for Kashan affairs and then Mr. [Syed Ali Mohammad and Sayyed Ali Asghar] Dastghib [representatives of the people of Fars Province in the Assembly of Experts] came and consulted about the elections in Shiraz and pointedly complained about Mr. Haeri [Imam Juma of Shiraz], but Mr. Haeri spoke about the integrity of the Shiraz clergy.

In the evening, the board of directors [Islamic Council] had a meeting. We dealt with administrative tasks and talked more about the quality of holding the vote of confidence in the government. In its meeting today, the government board has approved that [the government] come and take a vote of confidence because of the [formation] of the new parliament; Because [the government] has been approved by the imam, they have found a strong claim.

In the evening, we had a meeting in the house of Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei, the heads of the forces, in addition to Mr. Ahmad Agha and Mr. Vaez Tabasi [in charge of Astan Quds Razavi]. Mr. Velayati reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia - who was supposed to come to Iran today - has conditioned his coming to say that Iran has invited him in the statement and therefore the trip has been postponed. It was discussed and we decided to accept this condition. There was also a discussion about the cabinet and the vote of confidence and [the issue of] distribution of [goods] and housing.
