Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 14, 1987

I worked in my office until half past seven in the morning. The US flagging of Kuwaiti ships has been delayed by another week. I stayed in the public meeting until ten o'clock. I met a group of warriors from Mazandaran and urban teenagers and had a short talk with them.

Then I participated in the meeting of the Khatam camp to review the defense plans in the Persian Gulf in case of an American attack and a conflict in the Gulf of the naval forces of the army and the IRGC. They presented their designs and there was some discussion. It was agreed that a working group composed of the three forces of the army and the IRGC will consolidate and coordinate the plan and bring it to the headquarters of the Khatam camp the day after tomorrow.

In the evening, Mr. Ahmadi came from Kuwait. He reported that Kuwaiti officials are willing to resolve their issues with us. Two people came from the [City] Intelligence Department. They gave the report of the Klash extortion gang. They were supposed to follow until the end.

In the evening, I participated in the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. It was agreed that Tarbiat Modares will remain in the hands of higher education. [Dr. Alireza Marandi] Minister of Health is unhappy with this decision. After the meeting, I consulted with Mr. President about the Kuwaiti ship - on which the first American flag is supposed to be installed. We agreed.

We prayed the Maghrib and Isha prayers with Ayatollah Khamenei in the presence of district commanders and resistance bases of central and Tehran provinces, and then Mr. Khamenei and I gave a speech. The plan is to mobilize 900 battalions this year.

I participated in the meeting of the central council [community] of the clergy [Tehran struggle]. There was a discussion about the financial situation of the society. The imam gives five hundred thousand tomans a month, which is mainly given to needy clerics. Half of it was supposed to be spent on other things. I went home late.
