Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 2, 1989

At half past nine in the morning, I went to Ayatollah Khamenei's office to participate in the Reconstruction Council meeting. We approved agricultural policies in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture. Population regulation and division policies were reviewed with the presence of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, and we postponed the continuation of the work until Saturday. At quarter past two in the afternoon, I went to my office: prayer, rest and reading reports.

At four o'clock in the afternoon, I participated in a meeting with the presence of the prime minister, cabinet ministers, members of the program and budget commission, and the heads of councils of the planning department, which was convened at my invitation in the parliament. This meeting lasted until half past six. The discussion was about the 1968 budget and the [first] five-year plan. The Program and Budget Commission wants the five-year plan to be approved before the 2018 budget, but the government says it cannot give a small part of the plan before Eid and needs more time. Some suggested that three-twelfths of the budget be approved and the rest be left for after the program is approved. Many people spoke and finally it was agreed that the 1968 budget will be fully approved and after the approval of the five-year plan, if we deem it necessary, we will make amendments and the government will try to deliver the plan sooner. I went to my office and worked until half past eight. The guards brought water.

I came home Imam's servant informed about the return of his grandson from Qorwa. He had escaped from the [martyr] foundation. He claimed to have escaped from the pressure of discomfort from the inappropriate environment of the complex. It was decided not to return there. We watched the last episode of the wolf series. I gave the report of the student who was abducted and released after three days to the guards to read and learn about the evil ways of the enemies.
