Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 1, 1989

I woke up at five in the morning with the phone ringing. I had breakfast, milk and dates. I prayed and slept. I did not sleep well last night and I needed to sleep. In the reports and morning news, it was not important. In the public meeting, before the order, I spoke about Imam's letter to the Expediency Discernment Assembly. The Prime Minister brought the 1968 budget to the parliament and gave a long speech. I went to my office with a sigh.

Mr. [Hossein] Mahluji came. The production of ammunition in civilian factories was negotiated. The army is in debt and has no budget to pay its debt. I told Dr. Rouhani to hold a meeting with the presence of all relevant elements.

At noon, Mr. [Mozaffar] Jahreh [CEO of Iran's National Gas Company] came. He gave a report on the country's gas situation and appealed to the management in Khuzestan to remove the disturbances. Mr. Sadraei came and took money for the History Foundation. Agha Jalal came and took money for Pikan tires. In the evening, Mr. [Khosro] Aruj, the commander of the special forces, came. He reported the work and told the needs and explained the issue of the airport and the future coordination plan and asked for help for the guards.

Mr. Abdullah Nouri came. He gave a report on the progress of the work of the Armed Forces Coordination Commission and claims that the army's ground forces are completely against the integration and want to be a special forces corps. He also gave opinions about the presidency and intelligence and the organization of law enforcement and security forces and emphasized the need to adopt a suitable propaganda method for extremist slogans.

Mr. [Mahdi] Karroubi [representative of the Imam and head of the Shahid Foundation] came. He discussed the presidential elections. He insists that he has no choice but to accept me. The issue of motherless and guardianless children of martyrs was discussed. There are cases where there is no other way but to maintain in the complexes and there are problems there too; They make excuses and feel tired and complain about the lack of love from their mothers and relatives. In general, he expressed his tiredness with the problems of the Shahid Foundation and criticized the government and the lack of serious action to solve the problems of the people, as well as the excesses of slogans.

At night, I went to the meeting of the Expediency Council. The focus of the information was on the order. Because the officials of the military and law enforcement forces were not invited, I said to stop the discussion. The information, who were present in the meeting, wanted the work to be finished, but it was not. I came home
