Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 19, 1984

After the morning prayer, I wrote the text of the Arabic sermon and sent it for translation. In the public meeting, the election bill was discussed; Several articles were approved. In the afternoon Mr. Akhtar came and protested about the cooperative plan. Mr. Farhamandzadeh, the former governor of Gilan, came and complained about Mr. Ehsanbakhsh [Imam Juma of Rasht] and the clergy of Gilan. A group of volunteers sent to the front had come from the city of Raver, Kerman. I spoke for them.

In the evening, a group of members of Imam Hussain's army and the Ansar al-Hussein brigade came. I spoke for them. The secretaries of the Islamic Republic Party came from the cities - who are in Tehran for the seminar. I also discussed the differences for them. We prayed Maghrib and Isha together with them.

In the first night, Imam Juma came to Mahshahr and consulted about the future lawyer of the Majlis from this city. He asked permission from me for the library there from the Imam's share. Using the authority given to me by the Imam, there are not a few such references. He used to mediate about the guides of the ships that come to Mahshahr and have recently violated and been punished. I said they have done an ugly thing. They are not entitled to amnesty, unless it is clear that they will no longer break the law. I did my office work and caught the news and then came home.

At the end of the night, I greeted Ayatollah Montazeri on the phone. They were having dinner. They said that their wives had gone to pray for Kamil and left them alone. They were eating something - bread and shallot yogurt - I told them that Efat will go to Qom and visit them tomorrow.
