In the meeting of the [Expediency Discernment Council], we completed the 20-year vision. This is the first development document that defines the long-term horizon.

In the evening, we continued the interview with Dr. [Sadegh] Zibakalam, [Professor of Political Science at the University of Tehran]. He believes a good outcome for compiling the history of the revolution will be produced from these interviews.

In the domestic media, the awarding of the Nobel Prize to Ms. Shirin Ebadi has wide coverage. A dispute has also emerged between liberals and traditionalists. Liberals see it in line with their own goals. Traditionalists consider it in the direction of Western Islamophobia and the promotion of Western culture, comparing it to the prize given to Anwar Sadat, [former President of Egypt], for the Camp David [peace agreement between Israel and Egypt].

In Egypt, Al-Azhar scholars have also condemned the prize and called it anti-religious; similar to the [Nobel Prize in Literature] previously given to Naguib Mahfouz, [Egyptian novelist]. Abroad, the counter-revolutionaries, human rights activists, and Zionists have welcomed it.

In Iraq, the problem of sending Turkish troops has deepened. The Kurds, who are the only serious collaborators with the occupiers, strongly oppose it; even Mr. Masoud Barzani has said if action is taken, he will resign from the Governing Council. Muqtada al-Sadr, in a strange move, has announced a cabinet with several ministries. A group of his supporters in Najaf and Baghdad have confirmed it with demonstrations.

In Palestine, Israel's unprecedented aggression on Rafah in Gaza has left a large number of injured, a group of martyrs, and 44 house demolitions. In Lebanon, Egypt, and elsewhere, students have demonstrated and held sit-ins against these crimes. A serious dispute has emerged between [Yasser] Arafat and [Ahmed] Qurei, [Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority], over the cabinet. Arafat's proposed eight-minister emergency cabinet failed to win a vote.

Russia has announced that it has 100 worn-out nuclear ships in its decommissioning plan, but does not have the 4 billion dollar cost for it. North Korea, in a strange statement, has threatened Japan over its missile defense development program.
