Tensions in the Sixth Parliament Due to the Condemnation of Fatemeh Haqiqatju, the Then Representative of the Parliament

Full Text of the Daily Memo:

Mr. Abbas Akhoundi, [former Minister of Housing and Urban Development], came. He stated that there is widespread disappointment among the industrial forces, management sectors, and educated individuals due to the stagnation in the country and the halt in development. He remarked that currently, there is no support or central figure for growth and development in the country and requested that I take action.

Mr. [Mohsen] Araki, the representative of the leadership at the Cultural and Islamic Institute in London, came. He reported on educational, research, service, and cultural activities and mentioned that they had established a higher education institution under a university in Oxford, with more than 100 students enrolled. However, the leadership office is unwilling to cover the expenses. He requested cooperation from the Islamic Azad University; I told Dr. [Abdullah] Jasebi to investigate.

In the afternoon, Mr. Abbas Maleki, [from the Office of International Advisement to the Leader], came. He brought an invitation from a British university for me to inaugurate a conference on Iran and America and mentioned that his uncle, Mr. [Mohammad] Fadil Lankarani, [a religious authority], needs medical treatment. He asked that I suggest to him whether to go abroad or come to Tehran. The Parliament was somewhat agitated due to the sentencing of Mrs. [Fatemeh] Haqiqatju, [the representative of Tehran], to 22 months in prison.

Today, the meeting of the Security Council [of the United Nations] ended without a favorable outcome, and conflicts in Palestine have escalated.
