Meeting of the Leadership of the Second Khordad Faction in the Sixth Parliament and Their Political Consultations with Hashemi, Including Their Concerns About the Country's Situation and Ceremonial Meetings with Ayatollah Khamenei

Full Entry of the Day:

Mr. Amir Tehrani, Deputy for Parliamentary Affairs at the Ministry of Intelligence, and Mr. Noorzi, Director General of Intelligence for Qom, came to present a report on the security situation in Qom and the need to control banditry. Regarding Ayatollah Montazeri's residence, they stated that discussions about lifting the house arrest are ongoing in the Supreme National Security Council. They mentioned that Saeed Montazeri is detained for distributing an 80-page pamphlet and for his connections with counter-revolutionaries abroad, including financial transactions with figures like Mr. Emadeddin Baghi, Mr. Ezzatollah Sahabi, and Mr. Ahmad Zeidabadi.

Mr. Alireza Nouri, representative from Tehran and brother of Mr. Abdollah Nouri, visited to discuss his brother's weekly leave and to express his desire to run for the presidency of the Medical System Organization following his recent election victory. He requested that the reconsideration of his brother's conviction and weekly leave be pursued.

In the evening, the leadership of the Second Khordad faction of the Parliament arrived, including Mr. Seyyed Ali Akbar Mohtashami, Mr. Mohsen Safaei Farahani, Mr. Behzad Nabavi, Mr. Abolghasem Sarhadi Zadeh, Mr. Ali Hashemi Akhoyzadeh, Mr. Ali Asghar Rahmani Khalili, Mr. Ali Shakouri Rad, and Mr. Mohammad Reza Khabaz. They expressed that none of the revolutionary parliaments have faced as much criticism, attack, and pressure as the Sixth Parliament. They also voiced their grievances regarding the leadership, stating that the situation is such that they cannot raise any serious issues with him and described their recent meeting with the leader as ceremonial and unproductive. They lamented the pressures from the judiciary, the Broadcasting Organization, the right-wing faction, and the Guardian Council, and requested assistance from me to resolve the Parliament's problems and address the recent interpretation issues with the Guardian Council in the Expediency Council.

Mr. Rahmani Khalili stated that everyone knows that if I want to, I can, citing that Henry Kissinger had remarked that in the past century, no one stronger than Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been seen in Iran and the Middle East, and that he had manipulated the U.S. government regarding the MacFarlane affair. I responded that the current state of Parliament reflects a specific condition in society and its divisions, and that you, who have control over both Parliament and the government, should avoid exacerbating conflicts and strive for calm in order to work more effectively. I assured them that in the Expediency Council, we operate based on expert opinions and interests, without factional biases.

Mr. Shakouri Rad also mentioned that during the recent meeting of academics with the leadership, despite its importance, no results were achieved. A cleric, wearing a turban and a checkered scarf, spoke and made some exaggerated flattery, while a few others made superficial remarks. They expressed regret for attending the meeting, citing this as an example of the inability to raise serious issues with the leadership, adding that before the meeting, the members knew that no significant matters could be discussed and that it was merely a formal gathering.
