The race was held for safety reasons on a 4.2 km track around the Ultima Antarctic camp.

Participants in a two-endurance race in Antarctica, in addition to competing hard and breathtaking with each other, had to endure the gruelling cold below 17 to 25 degrees Celsius, which was accompanied by strong catabatic or downdraft winds. 

The race was held for safety reasons on a 4.2 km track around the Ultima Antarctic camp. The runners were able to sit in a special tent for food and drink. 

American runners Paul Johnston and Roberto Sembiante set a new world record for the 100-mile (182-kilometer) race by clocking 23 hours and 22 minutes. 

Yuxing Ni, a Chinese runner, completed the 100 km race in 10 hours and 40 minutes.
