Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 5, 1982

After praying, I studied. I followed the news about the Algerian plane crash. A group from Al Jazeera has come to investigate and take away the bodies. Syria has taken a position like us and held Iraq responsible. Some countries have taken a negative position and some are neutral. Turkish newspapers are also mischievous and some have confessed. It is an important issue and if it becomes clear that Iraq is guilty, it will be a big blow to Saddam.

We had a public meeting in the parliament. A few small things and then the bill of nationalization of foreign trade was proposed and almost half of it was approved. After lunch, prayer and rest, we had a meeting of the Board of Directors, where administrative affairs and plans for the coming week were dealt with. The internal commission objected to the fact that we have given the country's information plan to three internal, external and defense commissions, but the objection was answered. In the evening, the student branch of the Islamic Republic Party came and I spoke to them in detail.  The women complained that the real social role of women has not yet been defined in the revolution and were upset that our society prefers unemployed women for marriage and wives.

On the first night, the members of the Broadcasting Supervisory Council came and were upset with Imam's recent statements that the heads of the three powers should be the main members of this council to dictate the country's real policy on air, and they considered it an insult to themselves and believed that Mr. [Abdul Majeed] Maadikhah in the government and Ahmad Agha in the Imam's service caused this decision. After a lot of discussion, I convinced them to some extent that it was a positive step and I told them that we would also ask the Imam to compensate them.
