National Defense at the Meeting of June 17, 2010, with the Society of Seminary Teachers, Alongside Brigadier General Rozbahani, Head of the Moral Security Police, Regarding the Issue of Hijab

Ahmadi-Moghaddam: I reported to Ayatollah Khamenei that if we do not address it, the lack of hijab will be official in 2006.

Ayatollah Khamenei's opinion was that both cultural and administrative efforts were necessary.

In 2004, during the elections, if we wanted to make arrests, we would have to detain people from Meydan Vali-Asr to Park Way and transport them by metro because buses were insufficient.

Ahmadinejad was resistant before the elections, saying the opposition would use it as an excuse to attack us. He said to do whatever is needed but not to make it public. However, after the elections, he gave an interview stating that he did not accept the plan.

After that, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized two laws to Ahmadinejad: one was the prohibition on the use of satellite equipment, and the other was the plan for chastity and hijab, both of which he insisted upon.

Ahmadinejad repeatedly used harsh words against me in the cabinet meetings, saying: "Sir, they take girls to the police and do such and such things to them."

Ahmadinejad told Ahmadi-Moghaddam: "Our neighbor took his son to be reprimanded for wearing jeans, and they told him that such and such would be done, and now we are letting the Afghans handle it."

Ahmadi-Moghaddam responded, "If you can prove it, I will resign right here."
