In a letter to Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of Iran's judiciary, more than 150 journalists and media professionals called for the release of Vida Rabbani, a journalist imprisoned in Evin Prison, before Nowruz 2025.

This request was made in light of Ms. Rabbani's deteriorating physical condition and the fact that she remained in prison for less than four months.

Vida Rabbani was arrested in 2019 for covering a rally protesting the downing of a Ukrainian airliner and sentenced to three years in prison. The sentence was carried out during the 2022 protests. He was also sentenced to six years in prison for "assembly and collusion" and 15 months for "propaganda against the state."

The signatories of the letter requesting the release of Vida Rabbani, referring to her deteriorating condition, said that taking into account her previous detentions, only a few months remain from Ms. Rabbani's sentence. They called on the head of Iran's judiciary to "agree to his release so that he can start the new year with his family."

Mashallah Shams Alvaezin, Keyvan Samimi, Reyhaneh Tabatabaei, Elnaz Mohammadi, Zahra Moshtagh, Banafsheh Gholami, Milad Fadaei, Mehran Faraji, Masoud Bastani, and Maryam Shokrani are among the signatories of this letter.
