Mehdi Safari, the mayor of Gonabad, in a press conference on Journalist's Day, regarding the latest status of the Astan Quds town, stated: According to Article 101 of the Municipalities Law, about 43.7% of lands over 1,500 square meters belong to the municipality, and about seven thousand square meters should have been allocated to the municipality, but Astan Quds has prevented it.
Emphasizing that he cannot pass over the people's right to own homes, he added: "Everyone has paid their share of the fees, but no result has been reached yet, and the land remains raw and agricultural."
The mayor of Gonabad noted: Despite pressures from the judiciary, we have stood firm for the people, and as long as the municipality's rights are not granted, no permit will be issued in that area.
He also spoke about the past and present efforts of the mayor and city council to change the land use and said: Since the rights of the municipality have not been fulfilled, this case remains unresolved, and I hope we reach a result soon so that permits can be issued for the people.
