Bidi: Startup Migration Is the Result of Wrong Governance Policies

Hamed Beidi, digital rights activist and digital economy analyst:

Cutting off the internet does nothing to improve infrastructure security and can even create more vulnerabilities.

Cyberattacks and infrastructure insecurity have repeatedly occurred in isolated networks and even during internet shutdowns.

When the internet is cut off, millions of digital devices in the country cannot receive essential security updates.

Due to internet disruptions, many servers, websites, and data centers have missed critical security updates.

Today, hundreds of thousands of Iranian websites are at risk of being hacked because they did not receive these updates.

Internet shutdowns not only fail to increase security, but can also turn into a ticking time bomb for infrastructure insecurity.

When officials talk about “security,” in practice it often means controlling the free flow of information and public opinion.

Continuing these policies could lead to the migration of startups and weaken the country’s digital economy. / Eghtesad News
