In the past month, thousands of palm trees in Abadan were burned and destroyed.

Somayeh Baghi, Rokna reporter: The destruction of 3 million date palms in Abadan, the severe water crisis in the region, and the dying state of the Bahmanshir River are the result of years of mismanagement and incorrect policies in the field of water resources. Despite repeated warnings from experts, the Ministry of Energy continues to insist on implementing unprofessional and ineffective plans. In the past month, thousands of date palms in Abadan have burned and perished. People in the south refer to palm units as 'nfer', because palms hold the same significance to the people of the south as humans do, and palm groves have a unique identity. The people of the south play the rebab (a musical instrument) in the palm groves and talk to the palms. On the other hand, palm groves are a source of wealth and income for the southern people, and with the destruction of these groves, their investments are also lost. This comes after we have witnessed similar unfortunate incidents before, and farmers have repeatedly warned, but the situation has not been managed.
