The Branch's ruling, which was issued on the basis of the application of Article 477 of the Code of Criminal Procedure regarding the sentence issued to the journalist, states

Branch 34 of the Supreme Court acquitted Ali Pourtabatabaei, the former editor of Qom News, of the charge of spreading lies about the poisoning of female students in Qom.

In the judgment of this branch, which was issued based on the application of Article 477 of the Code of Criminal Procedure regarding the sentence issued to this journalist, it is stated: "Considering the contents of the plaintiff's accounts in messengers, which have a news aspect with a demanding and critical approach and have been done in line with his job and mission of reporting news, and no evidence has been presented and expressed for the realization of the elements of the crime of spreading lies in cyberspace, the conviction He is against the Shari'a and the verdict of acquittal of the plaintiff is issued."

Previously, a restraining order had also been issued for the journalist on charges of foreign relations, which was raised under the guise of espionage.

The journalist, who is active on Twitter under the pseudonym Khizran, was held in solitary confinement for more than a month in March 2023 after reports about the poisoning of students were published.
