Why flogging?!

 Ahmad Zeidabadi wrote on his Telegram channel:

In a time when, in the words of Jamal al-Din Orfi, "the stone of sedition rains from the catapult of the sky", Mehdi Yarrahi has been flogged 74 lashes for what some media outlets close to the government have claimed is "possession and drinking alcohol"! And a hundred blessings from the kind of religiosity that also sees history through the window of its harsh temperament!

In the life of the great men of Islam, it has been commanded to ignore and conceal sins such as adultery and drinking alcohol. Searching to discover these cases is one of the great sins and is explicitly forbidden and condemned by the Qur'an! But in the exact opposite direction, searching and covering up people's personal affairs during the Islamic Republic seems to have been at the top of the duties!

 There is a famous narration from the late Mr. Mar'ashi Najafi in this regard, which is not worth mentioning here. There is no limit or punishment for it in the Qur'an. What is mentioned in the Sunnah is the punishment for being drunk in public and disturbing people.

As the late Mr. Montazeri said, these types of rulings are subjective, not methodical. In other words, it must be subjected to new ijtihad in accordance with the general conscience of the people of this era. Just as the amputation of the hands and feet of bandits, the execution of the rulings of the dhimmis, stoning, etc., have been practically abandoned, it is necessary to remove "flogging" from the circle of punishment.

I have written before that imposing the punishment of flogging for many crimes as ta'zir has no other result than discrediting the government. The execution of this punishment, as I myself have witnessed in prison, at least in the case of ordinary prisoners, has taken on a completely theatrical aspect, but its propaganda effect knows no bounds.
