While Iran is known as one of the early countries and the founder of the International Labour Organization (ILO)

Food Press - Traces of the interference of some members of parliament and political interference in the elections of the Supreme Employers' Association of Iran

While Iran is known as one of the early countries and the founder of the International Labor Organization (ILO), in recent months there has been unpleasant news about government interference in the elections held by the Supreme Employers' Association of Iran!

The Supreme Employers' Association of Iran, as the largest private organizational body of the country's employers and an official and main member of the International Labor Organization in Iran and the World Employers' Organization, held the new elections for the board of directors and inspectors on January 20, 2025.

Despite the independence of the Supreme Council and the explicit enforceability of the resolutions and decisions of the General Assembly (which are in accordance with the Charter and the main and fundamental conventions of the International Labor Organization), after 50 days from the date of the Assembly, on March 10, the Ministry of Labor rejected the resolutions and decisions of the General Assembly.

After sending the letter of the Ministry of Labor rejecting the approvals of the General Assembly, the Board of Directors of the Supreme Employers' Association of Iran reviewed the letter sent by the Ministry of Labor and once again emphasized that the approval and conclusion of the resolutions of the General Assembly on January 20 was in accordance with the law, but once again the Ministry of Labor refused to accept the legal opinion of the General Assembly.

This is while we are now on the verge of holding the 113th meeting of the International Labor Organization in Switzerland and the representatives of the Supreme Employers' Association of Iran should participate in this meeting, but due to the action of the Ministry of Labor, it is not possible to introduce a representative to attend this summit and the absence of the Iranian representative may have international consequences for our country.

At the same time, the efforts made to obtain information and interview with the members of the board of directors of the Supreme Employers' Association of Iran (current members and elected members of the January 20 assembly) were fruitless.

It has been reported that the interference of some members of parliament, despite the sensitivity of the International Labor Organization (ILO) regarding the prohibition and non-interference of political parties in the elections of the private employer sector, despite the fact that the Ministry of Labor is fully aware of this issue, has prevented the registration and issuance of accreditation for the elections of the Supreme Labor Association.

It is hoped that in order to avoid the problem on the eve of the ILO summit (which will be held in Switzerland from June 2), this challenge will be managed and solved.
