Following a letter from Sheikh Ahmad Jannati, the Secretary of the Guardian Council, on the end of Mr. Haj Seyed Ahmad Khatami

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed three members of the Guardian Council for another period.

Following a letter from Sheikh Ahmad Jannati, the secretary of the Guardian Council, on the end of Mr. Haj Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, Haj Sheikh Alireza Arafi and Haj Seyyed Ahmad Hosseini Khorasani on July 5, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic responded:
"Greetings, I re -appointed the respected attendees to the members of the Guardian Council."

According to Article 2 of the Constitution, four members of the Guardian Council are appointed by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.  According to Article 4 of the Constitution, the installation and dismissal of the jurists of the Guardian Council is also with the leader of the Islamic Republic.

The jurisdiction of the Guardian Council is also elected by lawyers who nominate the head of the judiciary to the Majlis, who in a letter to the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly nominated three people to elect three.
