CitizenLab has discovered two major security flaws in iPhone devices, which have been used to install Pegasus spy software without users' knowledge. These flaws even affect the latest iPhones running the latest iOS 16.6 update. CitizenLab named this sequence of flaws and attacks "BLASTPASS".

These two flaws allow hackers to infect iPhones through attachments carrying malicious images. In other words, these zero click vulnerabilities allow attackers to take control of your iPhone or iPad without doing anything on your part. One defect is related to the way images are processed, and the other is a validation problem in attachments.

CitizenLab and Apple found these flaws in Image I/O and Apple Wallet, which have been fixed in the latest Apple updates. Devices at risk include iPhone 8 and later, all iPad Pro and iPad mini models 5th generation and later, Macs running macOS Ventura, and Apple Watch Series 4 and later.

All Apple users are advised to update their devices, especially those who may be targeted for attacks based on their occupation or identity. CitizenLab also recommends that Apple users enable the security feature "Lockdown Mode". If you have an Apple device, update it as soon as possible to avoid these security risks.
