While requesting the release of Keyvan Samimi, the Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists said: "When the Iranian authorities continue to arrest our colleagues for doing their duty, we cannot remain silent."

Anthony Belanger added: "We ask the authorities of the Islamic Republic to immediately release all the journalists and media workers who are in prison and stop the repression of the media."

According to confirmed reports, eighteen journalists are currently behind bars for covering nationwide protests in Iran.

Keyvan Samimi, the editor of Iran Farda magazine and the head of the press freedom defense association, was arrested by the security forces in Tehran on April 20, just three months after his release from prison.
