The continuous and staggering increase in the price of goods and the daily decline in the value of the national currency against gold

Seyyed Mostafa Tajzadeh: The continuous and staggering increase in the price of goods and the daily decline in the value of the national currency against gold and foreign currencies have frustrated and driven the nation to despair, sparking rightful protests among broad segments of the population. The continuation of this deplorable situation, which lacks any clear outlook, is rapidly pulling Iran toward statelessness and chaos if no fundamental solution is devised to resolve the crises.

Fortunately, the vast majority of political currents have reached the conclusion that:

  1. The governing policies are wrong.

  2. The current path is a dead end.

  3. The Leader alone plays the greatest role in administering the country and creating the current state of affairs.

  4. Repetitive and baseless promises are incapable of containing the problems or gaining public satisfaction.

  5. The country needs fundamental and immediate changes.

Unfortunately, these forces—including a major portion of the Reformists—remain occupied with secondary and marginal issues, evading the main problem: the failure of the religious government project and the "Guardianship of the Jurists" (Velayat-e Faqih), and the necessity of establishing a democratic order. This is while the root cause of the economic, social, political, international, and even environmental problems is not this or that government or parliament, but rather the deadlock-creating structure of the "Absolute Guardianship of the Jurists" and Mr. Khamenei’s Iran-burning and people-impoverishing policies. Furthermore, the logical result of the Leader's destructive approach has been the rejection and elimination of the competent and the recruitment and elevation of the mediocre.

The time has now come for all who want a prosperous, free, and independent Iran to demand with one voice the separation of the institution of religion from the institution of politics; that the clergy hand over power to the people and return to their traditional position and primary base, the seminaries. In my belief, the safest and most reliable way to transition through these crises is the formation of a Constituent Assembly and changing the Constitution according to the will of the nation. Based on this, the path to free and fair elections will open, and by attracting the participation of all, Iran can be made for all Iranians.

I view the silence of politicians at this sensitive historical moment as utterly irresponsible and believe that silence and passivity carry ominous consequences. Iran's path to salvation lies in all lovers of Iran demanding fundamental changes with one voice, forcing the Leader to hear the voice of the nation and submit to their demands—or to resign and step aside so that in his absence, fundamental transformations, including the removal of the "Guardianship of the Jurists" from the Constitution, become possible, and a Republic in the true sense of the word is realized in our dear Iran.

In conclusion, I emphasize once again that peaceful protest is an undeniable and legal right of citizens; its suppression by the government lacks any justification and, should it occur, must be decisively condemned by all political forces and currents.
