April 2, 1981:
Ahmad Agha Khomeini called, stating that the Imam is concerned about Ghotbzadeh's poor financial situation and suggested assigning him a job. However, intelligence reports indicate he maintains a luxury office with high expenses, raising questions about his funding sources.

March 30, 1982:
Mr. Reyshahri and Ahmad Agha reported the discovery of a U.S.-backed conspiracy by "proscribed figures" against the Revolution, including an assassination plot against the Imam and state leaders.

April 8, 1982:
News arrived that Ghotbzadeh and others were arrested on charges of plotting a coup and the murder of the Imam.

April 18, 1982:
At Mr. Khamenei’s office, we watched Ghotbzadeh’s recorded interview. He confessed to plotting the murder of officials, overthrowing the government, and coordinating with Mr. Shariatmadari. It was decided that "parts" of the interview would be broadcast.

April 24, 1982:
During a brief meeting with the Imam, I proposed granting clemency to the coup defendants, including Sadegh Ghotbzadeh.

July 29, 1982:
Mr. Reyshahri consulted on the timing and nature of the trial—whether it should be fully public or controlled.

August 9, 1982:
The Imam urged a swift resolution to the case. A network attempting to fund Ghotbzadeh’s release was reportedly discovered.

September 5, 1982:
During a consultative meeting with Mr. Khamenei and the Prime Minister, we reviewed "segments" of the trial films to decide on their broadcast permission.

September 16, 1982:
Ahmad Agha and Mr. Reyshahri informed me of Ghotbzadeh’s execution, which took place the previous night. I was saddened.
