Rouhani’s sharp attack on Jalili: “If they have the courage, let them debate me / He spent 6 years negotiating instead of negotiating.”

Hassan Rouhani, the former president, addressing Saeed Jalili in July 2024, said:

“You, who caused $700 billion in damage to the country. You, who in these three years inflicted another $300 billion of harm. If you want to talk about the Rouhani government and ‘prudence and hope,’ if you have the courage, debate it with me directly. During all these debates on state television, I was accused, and we wrote four letters, but no attention was paid; we were not given any opportunity. Of course, it is clear who is in charge of state television, whose supporters they are, and how they operate. You know all of this.

People! Someone who has caused so much damage to the country spent six years negotiating just for the sake of negotiation, arguing whether the next talks should be in Baghdad or Almaty. What did you achieve for the country? What did you gain besides resolutions, making people poorer and more helpless?”
