24 August 19811981

The beginning of Government Week; commemorating Raja'i and Bahonar.

The second of Shahrivar in the official calendar of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the first day of Government Week.

This week continues until the eighth of Shahrivar and is held in commemoration of Mohammad Ali Raja'i and Mohammad Javad Bahonar. Raja'i became president in August 1981, and Bahonar became the prime minister of his government. The life of this government was short, and on the eighth of Shahrivar of the same year, the bombing of the prime minister's office resulted in the deaths of both.

After this incident, the period from the second to the eighth of Shahrivar became known as Government Week. During this week, governments usually present their performance reports and inaugurate a number of construction and executive projects.
