When Kurdistan Was Drowned in Blood

Twenty-six years later, on August 21, 1979, Iran was still in the throes of the revolution. The Shah was gone, Khomeini had come, and everything was being rebuilt from scratch. But in Kurdistan, the story was different.

It was during these very days that news broke of the trial and execution of 16 individuals held responsible for the attack on Paveh in Kurdistan . This news, on the surface, was meant to demonstrate the "authority of the system"; but in practice, it was a sign of the beginning of the Kurdistan conflicts . Conflicts that continued for years and left thousands dead and wounded.

August 21, 1979, was a day when the revolutionaries were just beginning to taste victory. But the people of Kurdistan, who had been in the streets a few months earlier, were now taking refuge in the mountains and valleys.
