The Assembly of Experts for the Constitution approved the principle of Velayat-e Faqih.

The Assembly of Experts for the Final Review of the Constitution approved Article 5 of the new draft constitution, which entrusted the "guardianship of the affair" (Velayat-e Amr) during the occultation of the Twelfth Shia Imam to a qualified jurist.

This article was approved with 53 votes in favor, 8 against, and 4 abstentions.

The inclusion of the principle of Velayat-e Faqih in the constitution, which did not exist in this form in the initial draft, was one of the most fundamental decisions in the formation of the political structure of the Islamic Republic.
