Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 9, 1982

After prayers, I went to the assembly. Until nine in the morning, I read the reports. At nine-thirty, Mr. Zanjani, the manager of the Melli Shoe Factory, came and spoke about how things had been put in order there and about the factory's profits, and complained about customs, saying they were handling clearances poorly. I brought it to the attention of the Ministry of Finance. Mr. Seyyed Mehdi Hashemi, the head of the IRGC's Movements Unit, came. He was worried about his own situation, admitted there had been disorder, and was looking for solutions. It was decided that he should coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A group of employees from the Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex came; they had not succeeded in visiting Imam. I spoke to them to make up for it somewhat and talked about the importance of their work. Mr. Asadollah Badamchian came and made some remarks about the government, which I moderated. Reza and Mohsen Amouzadeh came, and Reza spoke about the results of his trip to Moscow for the desertification seminar. He criticized the Soviets' de-Islamization policies. Mr. Behzad Nabavi and his colleagues came and were upset about Imam's endorsement of Mr. Rasti [Kashani], which in reality amounted to a rejection of their faction, and they were looking for a solution. Mr. Khalkhali came and cleared up the doubts that he knew the author of the insulting letters. Two people who had gone to Pakistan for an investigation came and reported successes, which are continuing. In the afternoon, people from Imam's Military Advisory Office came and brought a report on Khark Island. It became clear that the island was being targeted with long-range Soviet missiles that are not guided, and that most of them miss their target. They also spoke about the disarray in the Air Force.

A thousand young people from the camp for the families of martyrs came. I spoke to them, and they held a ceremony. Dr. Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel came and spoke about the method of writing religious textbooks for schools and the weaknesses of the Ministry of Education. We held a meeting of the Supreme Defense Council. They spoke about our successes in Kurdistan and the future plans for the war. After the meeting, I gave an interview.
