Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 6, 1983

I stayed at home. I studied the issue of Velayat-e Faqih from the book “Avaed-e Naraghi”. I also read some of the reports. I spoke by telephone with [Mir-Hossein Mousavi], the prime minister, about reviewing the regulations and the situation of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Emami Kashani said that a lot of money was sitting idle in the Chamber of Commerce’s account. With the Imam’s permission, they want to give it for the construction of the new building belonging to the [Higher] Martyr Motahari School; they obtain this money from merchants’ membership fees, or under other headings. I transferred several mint seedlings from the garden bed to a flowerpot so that they could be used inside the building. At noon, Mr. Hossein Salari, managing director of the joint shipping company of the Ministry of Oil and the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office, complained by telephone about the lack of work, obstruction, and bureaucracy prevailing in the Oil Company—which had caused eight ships to be idle because spare parts had not arrived. At night, the children went to their uncle’s house. I was alone. Amir Araqi [son of the martyr Mehdi Araqi] came. He delivered some criticism; of the Mostazafin Foundation and other places. Mr. [Abolfazl] Tavakoli [Bina], head of the Hajj Organization, came and gave a report on the situation of the Hajj trip.

He is dissatisfied with the propaganda—which is the responsibility of the Ministry of Islamic Guidance [and Mr. [Mohammad] Mousavi Khoeiniha [Imam Khomeini’s representative and supervisor of the Iranian pilgrims]. I was not feeling well today; I had a slight fever; I did not observe any dietary restrictions either.
