Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 29, 1990

I reached my office at half past eight in the morning. Mr. Dr. Hashemi [Golpaigani] came for the order of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. [Mr. Bijan Namdar Zanganeh], Minister of Energy came. He gave a report about the water supply project to Qatar and asked for permission to enter into negotiations for a contract. I accepted He gave a report on the current state of electricity production and consumption during the first and second programs. I said that we should bring electricity production to a level where there will be no blackouts and we should use special electricity and savings during peak hours.

Dr. [Hasan] Habibi came for current affairs. The adviser of the Kuwaiti foreign minister came and brought the message of the Emir of Kuwait and expressed his gratitude for our positions and gave a report on the current state of the government. Mr. [Zain al-Abidin] Qurbani, the imam of Friday came to Lahijan. He demanded more support for tea cultivation and industry and expressed his satisfaction with the government's assistance to the earthquake victims.

In the evening, the Supreme National Security Council had a meeting. Discussions and decisions were made about the situation of prisons and the current issues of the region. At night, we were the guest of leadership with Mr. Ahmad. The approvals of the council were presented, which were approved by the leadership.

I arrived home late. Ashikh Mohammad Hashemian was at home. He is complaining about the Guardian Council's exam for the nomination of the Majlis of Experts, in which he was rejected, and he wanted to repeat the oral exam.
