We were supposed to go to Zabol by plane; because the radio had announced the news, the [Army] advisory office became concerned about security - because of the danger from inside Afghanistan - and decided that I should go by land. At six-thirty in the morning, we set out with several armed vehicles. The road is dry and barren desert. At one of the checkpoints along the way, we got out without prior notice and inspected it; their situation was not bad. Mr. [Seyyed Hassan] Hosseini, the representative of Zabol, gave good explanations and increased our information. The vehicle ran out of gasoline on the way; we took some from the spare supply carried by the companions.
I was surprised that they do not make any use of the waters of Lake Hamun, whose water flows back into Afghanistan and passes through the middle of fertile lands. I proposed making use of it. It was decided that action would be taken. People had come out of the city to welcome us, and a large number of cows and sheep,
were sacrificed. Before Friday prayers, I gave a speech at the Zabol stadium. The revolutionary sentiments of the people were very good. We performed the Friday prayers.
We had lunch at the governor's residence. We consulted with the relevant ministers and local officials about utilizing Lake Hamun and the Helmand River, and decisions were made. Since the Shahin [aircraft] cannot land on the Zabol airport runway, we returned to Zahedan by a C-130 cargo [aircraft]. From the air, I had a good view of Lake Hamun.
We headed toward [the port of] Chabahar. An official reception was held at the Chabahar base. Immediately, we went by car toward the rapidly installed pier. In the city of Chabahar, the people had gathered enthusiastically to mark our arrival. I took part in it and gave a speech. They are Sunni; they gave us a very warm welcome. I went to the pier. A Singaporean company had built, brought, and installed a pier within nine months, and it has an interesting technique. The engineers explained it.
We returned to the base at night. We performed the congregational prayer and had dinner at the restaurant. The deputy commander of the base, Major Tavangarian, gave good explanations about the situation there. Then we visited the command
room. Late at night, we had a meeting with the pilots. They asked questions about the future of the air force and the types of future combat aircraft. I answered. We had a meeting with the provincial council of the IRGC; they spoke about the danger of bandits, conspiracy, and insecurity on the new Chabahar road, and we made decisions. Early in the morning, two clerics from the ideological-political department and... came, and we held discussions and consultations.
