[Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei spoke by telephone about a text prepared for the Supreme Judicial Council and signed by him, me, and Mr. [Mousavi] Ardebili, concerning the Imam's authorization regarding the punishment of hoarders and profiteers. The Minister of Defense came to see me and asked me to tell the prime minister to take a positive approach regarding the army's needs. He mentioned his meeting with the Imam and his formal announcement of his resignation from the Hojjatieh Association, and complained about [Mr. Ghasemali Zahirnejad], Chief of the [Joint Army] Staff, as well as about being uninformed of decisions at the front.

In the afternoon, I read a useful book about the "Jazmourian" basin, prepared using satellite photographs and other information. Given the region's abundant water and land resources, serious action should be taken to develop it. They brought the reports from the parliament; I read them. There was nothing important. At night, after the news, a group interview with the leaders of the Tudeh Party, directed by Mr. [Mohammad Ali] Amooi, was broadcast on television. It is interesting and is considered one of the important events in the history of political parties and the Islamic Revolution.
