Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – November 4, 1986

In the public session of the parliament, before the order, I gave a short speech about the 13th of Aban and the plane crash in Zahedan. Mr. Emami Kashani complained about broadcasting the Guardian Council's question to the Imam and his answer regarding the temporary cultivation lands - which is not in the interest of the Guardian Council. I said that it is your fault that you asked and Imam's answer is nothing but confirmation of their first writing.

Mr. Rahim Safavi came. He gave a report on the future operational plans and stated the needs. Mr. Saidi came. I explained the mistake of Ayatollah Montazeri and his relatives regarding the issue of Seyyed Mahdi Hashemi and warned them not to continue on this path.

Agha Mohammadi came. He gave a report on the plans of the Ramadan camp with Iraqi groups inside Iraq and presented the demands of Jalal Talabani [the leader of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan], which he raised with the officials of the camp in Hamadan, and asked for my opinion; is optimistic Dr. Velayati came and asked us to help so that two of the French hostages are given to the Syrians. It was decided to make a decision in tomorrow's meeting.

At noon, Dr. Rouhani came. There was a discussion about the war, needs, currency, and the contents of the evening's lecture. Dr. Hadi came to consult on the contents of the evening lecture. In the evening Ashikh Qadrat [Alikhani] came and expressed his concern about the presence of several hypocrite followers around Beit Ayatollah Montazeri.

I gave an extended speech in front of the parliament on the 13th of November. I explained McFarlane's arrival to Iran well and explained America's desperation. Imam's opinion was that the facts of the current situation should be told to the people.
