The cultivated lands bill was on the agenda. Three articles were approved. A number of representatives oppose the “necessity,” and necessity is the basis of many of the articles.

At noon I met with several representatives. Mr. Mahdavi, the deputy head of the party organization, came and said that Mr. [Reza] Zavarai had sidelined him and believed it was under the influence of the anti-government faction's stance against Mr. [Mir-Hossein] Mousavi. Mr. Fakhr al-Din Hejazi came and expected that the newspaper and the broadcasting organization would publish his views and that he would be able to meet the Imam. A letter was brought from Mr. [Asadollah] Lajevardi's office that had been written from Saudi Arabia to Dr. [Ebrahim] Yazdi and contained suspicious and ambiguous points.

Mr. Sheikh Attar came. Influenced by the Friday prayer sermons, he wanted to donate part of the profits he had made from his work to charity. In the afternoon, [a group of members of] the Islamic Students Association of India came and gave a report on their activities; I spoke to them.

The judges and officials of the courts for combating vice came and reported on their work, and I also spoke to them. They had arranged for me to attend the representatives' meeting on Tuesday, but I could not make it.

The West German ambassador came and spoke about his efforts to expand relations and about the popular nature of the Islamic Revolution. Mr. Behzad Nabavi came and spoke about Dr. [Mahmoud] Kashani's and Dr. Bahrami's opposition to Mr. Mohammadi, the head of the Algiers Declaration office, and asked for help. He also sought help regarding internal government disputes, and we discussed the massive Esfarayen foundry project in Iran. It turned out to be under review. At night I came home. Effat was ill and upset. She cried for a while. Saeed [Lahouti] came and checked her blood pressure. She gradually got better. She fell asleep after taking a painkiller. I also suffered from insomnia.
